    Micardis is often taken by patients who have hypertension because lowering their blood pressure helps them prevent such serious medical conditions as kidney problems and strokes. This medicine belongs to a group of drugs called ARBs, and it works by relaxing blood vessels and letting the blood flow easier. Some doctors also prescribe Micardis to treat heart failures and help their patients protect kidneys from the damage caused by diabetes.

    Right Use of Micardis

    This medicine should be taken with food. Most patients are asked by their physicians to use it once a day, and their doses are always based on response and medical condition. You need to take Micardis regularly to get the most out of it, and it may take several weeks to notice positive effects. Your doctor should be informed if this treatment doesn’t help or make you feel worse.

    Unwanted Symptoms and Possible Problems

    Some patients may suffer from lightheadedness and dizziness when starting this treatment because their bodies need some time to adjust to it. If any of these symptoms get worse, it’s necessary to call your doctor at once. To avoid the risk of feeling dizzy, you should get up slowly from lying or sitting positions. The great news is that most people who take Micardis don’t feel any discomfort at all. However, if you notice any of the following serious side effects, you need to go to the hospital right away:

    bullet_ball_blue Fainting and unusual urine changes;
    bullet_ball_blue Slow and irregular heartbeats;
    bullet_ball_blue Muscle weakness and allergic reactions.

    Basic Precautions to Take

    Before you start using Micardis, it’s necessary to tell your doctor about possible allergic reactions to any pharmaceutical products. If you have any serious health problems, such as liver diseases, high potassium levels in the blood, bile duct blockage, dehydration, volume depletion and others, discuss possible risks with your physician, too. This treatment can make you dizzy, so it’s advisable to avoid driving cars and performing other activities that usually demand full alertness. You shouldn’t drink too much alcohol when using Micardis because of increased risks. If you experience such unwanted symptoms as diarrhea, vomiting and sweating, you risk ending up lightheaded. Any ongoing vomiting and diarrhea must be reported to doctors, too. This medication may increase blood potassium levels, and it’s dangerous for nursing and pregnant women.

    Risky Drug Combinations

    When taking Micardis, you shouldn’t combine it with certain medications, such as lithium, aliskiren, Ramipril, birth control pills, ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs, cough products, diet pills, and some others because they may lead to dangerous drug interactions. It means that they reduce the effectiveness of this treatment and increase your risk of developing serious side effects. Make a full list of other medications that you’re using and discuss them with your doctor to avoid dangerous combinations.
