    Description

    Lopressor is a popular medication taken alone or with other pharmaceutical products to treat hypertension, thus, helping patients to prevent their risk of having such serious health problems as kidney and heart complications. Doctors also prescribe it to treat angina and improve survival rates after heart attacks. This medicine belongs to a group of meds called beta blockers, and it works by blocking the effects of such natural chemicals in the human body as epinephrine. This is what allows Lopressor to lower blood pressure, heart rates and achieve other health results. This medication can be used to treat irregular heartbeats, migraines, tremors, heart failure and some other health conditions too.

    Right Intake of Lopressor

    This medication should be taken orally, either with or right after regular meals. Most patients take it 1-3 times a day according to the recommendations of doctors. Their regular doses are prescribed based on their response and other basic factors. It’s advisable to start this treatment with lower doses and increase them gradually to avoid the risk of having unwanted side effects. Lopressor should be taken at the same time every day, and it may take a few weeks to experience the full benefits of its use.

    Unwanted Adverse Effects

    Lopressor may cause some unwanted side effects, but they are rare and mild. For instance, some patients may suffer from such symptoms as:

    bullet_ball_blue Unusual tiredness and slow heartbeats;
    bullet_ball_blue Dizziness and drowsiness;
    bullet_ball_blue Diarrhea and reduced sexual ability;
    bullet_ball_blue Allergic reactions.

    These signs are mild, but if any of them persist, you should call your doctor immediately. If you want to avoid lightheadedness and dizziness, get up slowly from lying and sitting positions. Lopressor may also decrease the blood flow to your feet and hands, thus, resulting in feeling cold, and regular smoking only worsens this effect. In rare cases, patients may end up with the following severe side effects that require immediate medical attention:

    bullet_ball_blue Fainting and severe dizziness;
    bullet_ball_blue Trouble breathing and irregular heartbeats;
    bullet_ball_blue Mood and mental changes;
    bullet_ball_blue Symptoms of having heart failure;
    bullet_ball_blue Blue toes and fingers.

    Important Contraindications when Using Lopressor

    Before you take your first dose, consult your doctor about possible health risks, especially if you have such serious medical conditions as allergies, heart rhythms problems, breathing complications, liver issues, blood circulation diseases, mood or mental disorders, muscle diseases, diabetes and others. The use of Lopressor can make some patients feel drowsy and dizzy, so it’s recommended to avoid driving and other things requiring full attention. The consumption of alcohol should be limited when undergoing this treatment too. Don’t combine Lopressor with specific medications, such as fingolimod, SSRIs, NSAIDs, diet aids, cough products and some others, because they result in possible drug interactions.
