    Description

Aldactone belongs to a group of potassium-sparing diuretics that warn excess salt absorption by the body. Spironolactone is an active ingredient of the drug that helps to keep potassium levels from severe decrease. The medication helps to diagnose and treat the condition that presupposed the increased aldosterone concentration in the body. Generally, the drug is used to treat edema, especially in patients of the risk groups, such as liver cirrhosis, congestive heart failure, nephrotic syndrome and others. Additionally, Aldactone is administered to prevent or treat hypokalemia. The medication can be taken off-label for other instances, not listed in the safety guide.

Recommendations for Aldactone Administration: Uses and Doses

Consult your doctor about Aldactone intake before you start the treatment course. Properly selected dose is the key to a successful and safe treatment course. That is why, you should never take the drug in higher or lower doses prescribed by a specialist. Frequent blood tests will be required during Aldactone therapy to check the effectiveness of the medication.

The treatment may change the results of certain medical tests, so warn your doctor about the drug intake. Continue using the medication for a full length of the prescribed course, as the symptoms may improve earlier than the overall condition. Sudden stop in Aldactone intake may result in the severe withdrawal reactions and other complications.

Provide the doctor with detailed information about your health condition. Mention all the complications and side effects to help the physician adjust a correct dose, sufficient for a positive effect and small enough for a safe course. Aldactone dose will differ greatly depending on severity of the condition, its type, overall health state and multiple other features. On average, Aldactone dose will vary from 25 to 200 mg a day administered either once or in divided doses.
